Can third-year coach Scott Linehan lead his team back to the top of the NFC West? To do so, his squad will have to overcome the injuries and other issues that led to last year's 3-13 record. Fortunately for Rams fans, it sounds like St. Louis has a whole team. The offense, when healthy, looks to be as explosive as any in the league with Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson and Torry Holt. Can these three, combined with a healthy offensive line, light up the scoreboard like some of the Rams teams of the past?
With their 2008 Draft, the Rams addressed a number of issues, including defense when they landed defensive end Chris Long out of Virginia with the second overall pick. The Rams also used their draft to address some wide receiver concerns, brining in Donnie Avery out of Houston and Keenan Burton out of Kentucky. Both players are expected to contribute this year. If the defense can perform as well as the offense is capable, St. Louis' vacation from the NFL Playoffs should be coming to an end.
The NFC West isn't as strong as some of the other conferences, although, rivals Arizona and San Francisco have a chance to be better. This season, the Rams AFC opponents will be from the AFC East, meaning fans will get to see a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI when the Rams travel to Foxborough to play the Patriots.
