Wrigley Field Information

Wrigley Field
1060 W. Addison St. • Chicago, IL 60613

Wrigley Field is a baseball stadium in Chicago that has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916. It was built in 1914 for the Chicago Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. It was also the home of the Chicago Bears of the NFL from 1921-1970.

Wrigley Field is located in the residential neighborhood of Lakeview. The area close to the ballpark has bars and restaurants known as "Wrigleyville." During Cubs games the fans will stand on Waveland Avenue waiting for home runs which are literally hit out of the park. If it is a home run hit by an opposing player the fan who got the ball will throw it back onto the field. Wrigley Field has been nicknamed "The Friendly Confines." It is the second oldest active major league ballpark behind Fenway Park and is the fourth smallest being used as of the 2006 year.

Wrigley roof is the name given to the roofs of residential buildings which have bleachers or seating on top to view sporting events nearby like in "Wrigleyville" to watch the Chicago Cubs play baseball! Wrigley Field has evolved over its 90 plus seasons. There doesn't seem to be much left of the original. One of the more obvious originals are the brick portions of the outer bleacher wall, however during the bleacher expansion those bricks were removed which were later sold to the public individually at a garage sale at the beginning of the 2006 season!

Wrigley Field has been host of some historic baseball moments over the years including:

Weather
Former Cubs manager Don Zimmerman used to call the ballpark "Wrigley Field I" and "Wrigley Field II", depending on which way the breeze was blowing off Lake Michigan. If it's from the west or southwest, you want a seat in the bleachers because balls will usually be flying out of the ballpark. If the wind is from the east or northeast, bring a jacket. April, May, and September can be significantly colder because of gusts off the water.

Concessions
Wrigley Field has three restaurants - the Stadium Club, the Friendly Confines Cafe, and the Sheffield Grill. Inside the ballpark, concessions offer everything from Italian beef sandwiches to traditional fare such as hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, pretzels, and peanuts.

Parking
Parking is almost nonexistent with no single main lot and only several small vendors along Clark Street. The Cubs offer prepaid parking through their ticket office. Tow trucks do good business at Cubs night games so pay to park somewhere legitimate.
